What is Involved in Teeth Whitening?

In-practice teeth whitening is a professional in-practice treatment for getting a whiter, brighter smile. It’s faster and results in less sensitivity than many at-home whitening kits.

Our dentist or hygienist will apply a whitening gel to your teeth which is activated using a LED light. Most people only need one treatment to achieve a whiter smile although some people may require an extra treatment to remove deeper stains from their teeth.

Is Teeth Whitening Right For You?

As teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment, it’s important to take care of any cavities or decay before teeth your treatment.

At your consultation, our dentists will assess your mouth, teeth and gums to make sure your mouth is healthy and that you are a good candidate for treatment. We may suggest treatment for cavities or decay before your teeth whitening treatment.

What You Need to Know

Teeth whitening is a fast, effective treatment for stained teeth. Our dentist or hygienist will talk through your concerns and expectations at your initial consultation.

The treatment takes around 90 minutes. The treatment is painless, but you may feel some discomfort having your mouth open for a long time. During treatment, you can relax by listening to music or watching a movie on our ceiling-mounted TVs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the results of in-practice teeth whitening last?

You should see results fairly quickly after your teeth whitening procedure. How long your whiter, brigher smile lasts will depend on a few factors. Avoiding caffein, smoking and fizzy drinks will help your smile stay whiter for longer.

Is teeth whitening treatment safe?

At home teeth whitening kits and whitening products can irritate the gums or cause teeth sensitivity. In-practice teeth whitening is a safer option. It’s important that our dentists assess the health of your teeth so that we know you’re a suitable candidate for treatment.

How many appointments for teeth whitening will I need?

At Gentle Dental, you’ll need at least two appointments for teeth whitening – an initial consultation followed by one treatment. Some patients with discolored teeth or deeper stains may need a second teeth whitening appointment. Your dentist will discuss this with you at your consultation.
